This project belongs to my personal portfolio. Wine culture has always fascinated me, and during the COVID-19 lockdown I began studying wine and its packaging. I designed several proposals. It was fun imagining these labels could be on the shelf of a wine store. The image was inspired by the white wine-seafood pairing and the Rene Magrite conceptual piece of art, «Ceci n’est pas une pipe.» I looked for a fusion between old species illustrations and casual handwriting typography with a bright color touch.
In the Rene Magritte painting, he shows a pipe, and below it he painted, «Ceci n’est pas une pipe» French for «This is not a pipe.» This masterpiece of Surrealism creates a three-way paradox out of the conventional notion that objects correspond to words and images. The painting is not a pipe, but neither is it an image of a pipe. «Ceci est un vin» means «This sure is a wine.»
