La Nacra en el Mar Menor

La Nacra en el Mar Menor
LIFE Pinnarca Outreach Campaign

Overview
This project is part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)-supported LIFE Pinnarca initiative, developed to prevent the extinction of Pinna nobilis in the Mar Menor, Murcia (Spain). The program brings together a consortium of scientific and institutional partners working on urgent conservation strategies to protect this endangered species.

Led by the Región de Murcia, the European Union, and Canal Mar Menor, and in collaboration with the University of Alicante and SAFE, the initiative focuses on both ecological action and public engagement.

Challenge
Pinna nobilis—a key bivalve species in Mediterranean seagrass ecosystems—has faced a critical risk of extinction. Beyond scientific intervention, the project required a strong communication strategy to raise public awareness and encourage active participation in conservation efforts.

Role
I was responsible for developing an engaging and accessible outreach campaign that translated complex ecological information into clear and compelling visual communication. The goal was to connect scientific urgency with public understanding.

Approach
The campaign focused on simplifying environmental data and making the species’ ecological importance understandable to a general audience. I developed a visual narrative that balanced scientific accuracy with clarity and emotional engagement, ensuring consistency across all communication touchpoints.

Outcome
The resulting materials supported awareness efforts around the LIFE Pinnarca initiative, helping communicate the urgency of protecting Pinna nobilis and encouraging public awareness and collaboration in conservation efforts.
