CARDIOVID — Identity Design
Overview
CARDIOVID is a collaborative research initiative based at the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco, focused on understanding the cardiovascular impact of COVID-19 in patients. The project brings together academic labs working at the intersection of virology and cardiovascular research.
Concept
The goal was to create a visual identity that reflects the relationship between COVID-19 and the cardiovascular system, translating a complex biomedical interaction into a simple and recognizable symbol.
Design Approach
The logotype merges two key forms: the iconic spiky silhouette of the coronavirus and a simplified anatomical heart shape. The combination visually represents the interaction between viral infection and cardiac function, reinforcing the scientific focus of the initiative.
Outcome
The resulting identity creates an immediate visual link between disease and organ system, supporting recognition and communication across academic and research contexts while maintaining clarity and symbolic impact.
